As the Tanzanian government under the leadership of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan continues to attract tourists to the country, Foxes Company has proudly represented Tanzania for its innovation in Africa.
Out of 20 organizations from nine countries, Tanzania stood out through FOXES.
Other countries represented were Kenya, Namibia, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe all recognized in the World Travel Market (WTM) Africa 2025 Responsible Tourism Awards.
Speaking at the awards ceremony in Cape Town, Rachel Nxele, a board member of South African Tourism, congratulated all the recognized participants, saying:
“You are all winners who have emerged through tough competition to reach this stage.
Among you are small enterprises and large companies, all of which have significantly contributed to responsible and improved tourism.
We are pleased you’ve shared your stories so that others can learn from you.”
Dr. Harold Goodwin, founder of ICRT Global and chair of the judging panel, added:
“These awards are not easy to win. The judging process is extremely rigorous.
Being on this list of honor is a major achievement.
By entering these awards, you shed light on ideas and innovations that can inspire others.
We know taking responsibility in tourism is no easy task, but your work shows what’s possible.
Together, we will continue to inspire the next generation of responsible tourism innovators.”
Each organization received either a Silver, Gold, or One to Watch recognition.
The One to Watch title indicates the judges were impressed by the initiative and would like to follow its progress with the hope of seeing a full submission in the future.
All Gold winners now qualify to compete in the Global Responsible Tourism Awards, sponsored by Sabre, where they will face winners from Latin America, Europe, the Indian Subcontinent, and Southeast Asia.
Award: All-Inclusive Responsible Tourism
In this category, judges looked for all-inclusive tourism services that care for both the environment and local communities — from luxury safaris to private boat cruises.
Foxes Safari Camps, Tanzania
Foxes Safari Camps in Tanzania has built its operations on the principles of the circular economy.
It runs an organic vegetable garden and livestock farm that provides fresh produce, cheese, and meat for its services, along with Arabica coffee and roasted macadamia nuts.
Over 98% of its staff are Tanzanians, with 90% coming from nearby communities.
Foxes also invests in skills development through year-round training in hospitality, tour guiding, driving, aviation activities, and culinary arts.
Additionally, the company manufactures furniture and safari vehicles using artisans and mechanics trained through its own programs.
Investments in infrastructure like a timber processing center help streamline work, reduce costs, increase jobs, and ensure quality.
As noted in their award application, the all-inclusive model simplifies trip planning for international guests while maintaining consistent service standards and collaborating with local suppliers and staff with integrity reducing risks of unethical practices often found in poorly regulated operations.
Judges were impressed by the breadth of Hideaways Africa’s activities related to environmental conservation and community involvement across its various locations.
The company ensures proper waste management, purchases eco-friendly products from local producers, employs local residents, and promotes cultural exchange. Judges are looking forward to a more focused submission in the future, possibly highlighting a specific camp or country.
Award: Responsible Tourism in Addressing Climate Change
Climate change is real and accelerating. Its effects are visible through storms, floods, droughts, wildfires, and rising sea levels. We must reduce carbon emissions and build resilience.
In this category, one highly deserving Gold winner emerged from Zambia.
Foxes Company was represented at the awards ceremony by Oliver Fox.
