A YOUNG MAN ANDREW MWAKYOMA IS STUCK GOING TO SCHOOL WHEN HIS MOTHER IS ALLEGED TO PAY BACK LOAN

A YOUNG man Andrew Mwakyoma (17) a resident of Ibwanzi in Ihanu ward, Mufindi district, Iringa region has failed to continue his studies in Form Five secondary school due to his mother who was schooling  him to not be eligible to continue lending to the banks after having a chronic loan of Tsh 500,000.

Andrew, who passed the Form Four exam in 2020 by gaining Division 3 of 24, has been living at home for more than a year now, working as a laborer to earn money.

Speaking to this correspondent yesterday immediately after the entrepreneurship training for disadvantaged youth in the Youth Agency Mufindi (YAM) project, Mwakyoma said that since he started secondary education form one school requirements including the fees adding that his mother no longer borrowing the money in local loan groups  (Vikoba).

"In our family we are more than two children and I have three younger siblings with one father and these two different fathers and among them one has started form one this year and one is in primary school and two are still starting school"

So he said due to the limited economic capacity of their mother he has had to wait to go to form five to allow his younger brother to start secondary education form one.

"I am still waiting for my mother to get money so that I can go on to my form five studies and I really want to go to school but I have no income and my mother has nothing at the moment. But I have no money of Tsh 800,000 to pay “

Andrew said he has now been taken over by the Youth Angecy Mufindi (YAM) project as a young person coming out of a difficult situation and undergoing entrepreneurship training to pursue entrepreneurial activities as capital for him to pursue his academic dream.

The boy's mother, Joyce Mtovano, spoke by telephone to the reporter and said that she still has plans to further her education but that she has no financial means and so she asks the good Samaritans to help her son return to school.

Joyce said until the young man managed to reach Form Four it was due to his efforts to raise money through farming as well as brewing local liquor.

That his economic situation is not friendly as he even initially managed to educate the young man in high school from brewing and squandering the little money he earned by placing it in groups of Vikoba who were able to give him a loan of Tsh 1.7 million in a loan that he could not repay on time.

And so far has continued to repay the loan from 2020 and is still owed an amount of 500,000 shillings. He said when he completes the loan he will be able to apologize to the group so that he can return and apply for a loan again which will enable his son to continue his college or high school education.

YAM project manager Zilipa Mgeni said the aim of the YAM project is to provide entrepreneurship education to vulnerable youth and those who have dropped out of primary school if such children are sent back to school to continue their studies.

"Our four-year project started last year funded by the Deacones Institute under the Finnish government and is being implemented by the Foxes Community and Wildlife Trust in partnership with Mufindi District Council and is being implemented in 16 villages in three Ihanu counties, Mdabulo and Luhunga Mufindi district with 770 youths and children will benefit from this project "
