PRIVATE ORGANIZATIONS and government institutions have been requested to provide or establish enabling environment for the employment of the young people with various disabilities according to their professions they studied in order to enable this group of people with disabilities to use the skills they have to contribute to the growth of the nation's development instead of stigmatizing them and seeing them as helpless people in society.
Making a statement yesterday in the grounds of Igoda primary school in front of the head of the Mufindi district yesterday during the annual festival of the Youth Agency Mufindi (YAM) project manager Zilipa Mgeni said that through the YAM project which has been implemented for a period of three years in of Mufindi district in Iringa region, many young people with disabilities who had given up hope of life due to being separated from their families have been given various trainings and have shown great ability to work but the challenge is employment.
Thus, he said that if private institutions and those of the government, when they announce employment opportunities, they have to look at the possibility of giving more priority to that group of people with disabilities who will increase the workforce in their institutions.
Finding Private and Government Organizations that are ready to hire young people with disabilities in different units according to their special needs advised by experts such as reducing the days or hours of work in a week for an employee with a certain type of disability.
He said that the project has successfully provided vocational education and entrepreneurship to more than 300 young people, including young people with disabilities, to enable them to take charge of their lives, to be able to use the opportunities that are available in their society by creating the enabling environment for them.
"Today we would like to share with you the success of the YAM Project which has succeeded in reaching young people and providing them with education about life skills, entrepreneurship, agriculture and modern animal husbandry, and the issues of forest products and its value chain".
Through this project, 280 young people have been given education about life skills and psychology and mental health issues. 280 young people have been approached about entrepreneurship education, and 280 young people have been given education about agriculture and modern breeding.
155 female and 125 male youths have been reached in every aspect of education. The project has also succeeded in reaching young people with challenges of various types of disabilities and providing them with various types of education about including the the issues of forest products and its value chain.
This project has also enabled children and young people with disability challenges to get communication services, treatment, and assistive devices. More than 30 assistive devices have been provided to children and young people with various types of disability challenges.
"Other successes include a project to distribute piglets and starter food to young people so that they can earn a living. 280 young people have got pigs since the start of this project." So he said now the current challenge is to find private and governmental organizations that are ready to hire young people with disabilities in different units according to their special needs advised by experts.
He said that their project is being implemented in the three wards of Mdabulo, Ihanu and Luhunga in the Mufindi District Council and the project is being implemented in collaboration with various stakeholders, including the facilitation team from the Mufindi District Council Director's Office, Government leadership starting from the level of the district, ward, villages to the neighborhoods of the project area.
Other stakeholders include the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland which is the main sponsor, project members from each village, Stakeholders from Iringa University, Stakeholders from TAPCAP-Dodoma, Stakeholders from Inuka, Commercial tree planting from Mafinga, (PFP) , Neema craft Iringa, ZAPDD - (Zanzibar Association of People with Developmental Disabilities), the Project Board led by its Chairman and the Tanzania Project staff and those in Finland and many other stakeholders.
For his part, Nico Foxe's, speaking on behalf of the Foxe's company, said that along with the project, the institution is committed to providing social services such as the construction of halls, classrooms and the construction of a village clinic.
The Chairman of the Mufindi District Council Festo Mgina said that they, as the Council recognize the great efforts made by Foxe's company, so they will continue to be close to the YAM project, including seeing that Zanahati, which was built with the status of a health center, is upgraded to a health center .
On behalf of the guest of honour at the festival, the head of the Mufindi district, Dr. Linda Salekwa, in addition to praising the great efforts made by the Foxe's company in the Mufindi district, still asked the people around the project to continue to take care of the project and to be honest and even cooperate with the Foxe's company.
Dr. Salekwa who was represented by the chairman of the Revolutionary Party (CCM) Mufindi district George Kavenuke said that the Mufindi district has many investors but Foxe's investor has been an example to other investors as he has been the most dedicated investor to contribute to the development of the Mufindi district and that he has already contribute to various projects worth more than 2 billion shillings within Mufindi district.
