The Director of RDO Vocational Training College in Mufindi, Fidelis Filipatali, has announced that the institution is ready to collaborate with the Iringa Regional Union of Phone and Computer Vendors and Technicians (UWAMASICI) to strengthen the skills of mobile phone and computer technicians through short-term and long-term training programs that will equip them with nationally recognized qualifications.
Speaking to UWAMASICI members yesterday, Filipatali said the college offers training in 18 different fields, including Information and Communication Technology (ICT), electrical and electronic engineering, construction, plumbing, tailoring, beekeeping, livestock keeping, agriculture, pottery, and many others.
He explained that computer literacy has become an essential skill in almost every profession, and therefore all students receive basic ICT training.
Filipatali noted that the college is fully registered with the relevant authorities and that its graduates receive nationally recognized certificates.
He said these qualifications would enable phone technicians to enhance their technical skills, improve the quality of their services, and increase their employment opportunities in various institutions.
“RDO is ready to design special training programs for phone technicians in collaboration with UWAMASICI so that they can continue with their daily work while receiving professional training. The college doors are open to all technicians who wish to improve their skills,” he said.
Filipatali, who also serves as the Chairperson of NACONGO in Iringa Region, said civil society organizations play a significant role in connecting young people with development opportunities provided by the government and development partners from within and outside the country.
He explained that the goal is to empower young people to become self-employed and establish sustainable income-generating projects.
“Young people can form recognized groups at the ward level and later register them as Community-Based Organizations (CBOs). This will enable them to prepare and submit project proposals to donors and secure funding for various development initiatives,” he said.
He further called upon phone technicians and young people across Iringa Region to take advantage of the training opportunities offered by RDO and to join development groups and organizations.
According to him, this will help them acquire nationally recognized certificates, strengthen their professional skills, create self-employment opportunities, and actively contribute to community development.
