MORE than 80 young people from vulnerable communities in three wards of Igoda, Luhunga and Mdabulo in Mufindi district in Iringa region have started receiving special training in setting up economic projects that will enable them to run their lives and support their families.
The 10-day training started yesterday at the Orphanage in Igoda village, Mufindi district by engaging the young people, some of whom are graduates with various life challenges, including daughters who have terminated their pregnancies.
The trainer John Kalolo from the non-governmental organization RLABS -Tanzania said that the special training is to build their capacity in the field of entrepreneurship and will enable young people to overcome backward thinking.
That some of them have had to be an entrepreneur you must have cash in hand when you can become an entrepreneur without starting with financial capital.
"In many rural areas there are many opportunities to do something that is basically one of the biggest investments for someone who aspires to become an entrepreneur. So if the actors get rid of the static mindset of relying on money they can make a difference in life," he said.
In order for these young people to overcome this misconception they must first become self-aware and confident before starting the entrepreneurial activity they need to do and after they start then they can start the second process of applying for loans to improve the relevant entrepreneurial activity.
However, he said that through the land they own in rural areas, whether family or private, they can design economic projects that do not require much financial capital other than manual labor.
Kalolo said for example, entrepreneurship for girls is entrepreneurship that one can start with non-financial innovation and once they start they can improve by finding an area that will need more funding to improve.
Commenting on the benefits of the training, Youth Agency project manager Mufindi (YAM) Zilipa said the aim of the training was to empower more than 770 youths including 150 orphans from the three wards which will all be connected to the 16 villages of the project.
He said the YAM project is for four years from 2021/2024 and has been funded by the government of Finland under its Diaconess institution in partnership with the Tanzanian government under Mufindi District Council and Foxes Community and WildLife Conservation.
Mgeni said after the training provided to the beneficiaries they will be empowered to run the projects that they have chosen to do by empowering them to improve it further.
Mufindi district is one of the three districts in Iringa region that have been challenged by youth and vulnerable children and through the government and various development partners have continued to empower these young people to set up economic projects that enable them to make progress.
